Kit Hill

Kit Hill, near Callington, is visible from miles around. It is the highest point in south-east Cornwall and from its slopes provides commanding views in all directions. The view of the Tamar Valley towards the sea is particularly spectacular but the river can also be seen in its upper stretches around Latchley and Luckett. There are a series of connecting paths around the hillside popular with walkers but be warned, there’s very often a chill wind blowing, so go prepared.

The iconic chimney stack on the summit was built in 1858 as part of the engine house which drove the pumps raising water and ore from the mine shafts below. Nowadays it houses a number of communication aerials.
